Australia has 11 steel plants tracked in the Global Iron and Steel Tracker, with a combined crude steel capacity of about 11.9 million tonnes per year. Most follow the DRI–EAF route, reducing ore by direct reduction and melting it in an electric arc furnace. The largest is GreenSteel Australia New South Wales, at about 5.0 million tonnes per year.
