Steelmaking at Saarstahl Völklingen is based on the basic oxygen furnace, which converts liquid hot metal into crude steel by blowing oxygen through the melt. The liquid steel is solidified into semi-finished shapes by continuous casting. The plant has a crude steel capacity of about 2.7 million tonnes per year. Its main products are wire, spring steel, bars.
