Mexico has 15 steel plants tracked in the Global Iron and Steel Tracker, with a combined crude steel capacity of about 30.5 million tonnes per year. 10 of them are electric arc furnace plants melting recycled scrap, alongside 2 integrated BF–BOF sites. The largest is ArcelorMittal Lázaro Cárdenas, at about 6.5 million tonnes per year.
