Libya has 2 steel plants tracked in the Global Iron and Steel Tracker, with a combined crude steel capacity of about 1.7 million tonnes per year. Most follow the DRI–EAF route, reducing ore by direct reduction and melting it in an electric arc furnace. The largest is Libyan Iron and Steel Misrata, at about 1.7 million tonnes per year.
